Day 31 - What a Difference...

..a year makes.

Okay, I'm going out on a limb here. This is a picture of what I looked like a year ago to the date. It's slightly embarrassing and I'm 110% certain I will never look like that again.
In all fairness to myself I was two months post-pregnancy in this photo but all the same not eating for optimal health.

Day 29

WHAT I CONSUMED TODAY:
1 quart lemon juice
2 oz wheatgrass shot
1 quart carrot juice with wheatgrass powder
1 quart orange juice with MSM

I got my hair done today in cute little twists. Nothing like spending 8 hours in a braiding salon for the sake of beauty. I'll post a picture tomorrow. Tonight my head kind of hurts and I don't feel like posing right now.

It's hard to believe I'm almost a third of the way into my juice feasting experience. Wow! I haven't had any major problems with this feast. I feel really good, surprisingly so. I wasn't really expecting it to go so well. Actually, I wasn't really expecting anything. I'm on this journey that's full of surprises and I'm treating it that way.

But there is a sense of anticipation going on. I can't explain it fully, but it's kind of like waiting for the other shoe to drop or something.

In a few days I'm going to open Inspiration:Life to the public. I'm very excited to be sharing this journey with others.

Day 27 - Challenges

I chose this post for today because it is around the same time I ended my last juice feast in May and that fact is in the back of my mind. I realize it's important not to let the ego participate in this juice feast, but reality says otherwise.

My ego, let's call her Francesca (a favorite name of mine), is still pouting because she didn't "go the distance" in May. As much as I try, I can't ignore that Francesca is just a spoiled child who wants her way and she is willing to do anything to make sure that she goes to the 92-day "mark" at all costs. The reason?: To save face, to reach her goal, just because, etc.

She a part of me and I have to honor that she exists and move forward from there.

Having said that, Francesca doesn't rule me, I can't give her total control. The other aspects of me know that if I lose too much weight, or another complication arises or if I start to feel true interest in solid foods, it's time to move on to solids, whenever that is.

Fortunately, I have not reached that point. I'm still loving the experience. I have an abundance of energy and I'm feeling remarkable with each day.

I survived the Christmas dinner (and the leftovers) which wasn't the easiest thing to do.
I prepared 25% of the meals that others ate. All the dishes were cooked (which I wasn't too thrilled about). I prepared it without tasting anything. There were plenty of people around to act as taste testers.

I'm not going to lie, it was frustrating. It has been frustrating being on this juice feast while others around me are eating food and not only eating food but eating things I feel aren't nutritionally sound. *The way I figure the food will always be there. This experience isn't the easy thing to achieve when you live around folks who aren't on the same page with you. *

Fortunately, I haven't (and won't) give into my frustration.

HANDY JUICE FEASTING TIPS
Drink more water - dehydration can be mistaken for hunger, I drank a quart or so of water and I was fine.

Support from family - My husband may be eating crap but he knows enough about the raw lifestyle (and juice feasting) to know that I'm working toward optimal health and that it's important to me to stay on that path and he's behind me 110%.

Hobby - I picked up my crochet hook and yarn and made dish towels. They're quick and easy.

Goals - Early on I wrote down why I wanted to complete a 92-day juice feast and when I felt my well-power faltering I read that statement as a reminder.

Drink more green juice - Listening to my body is important. If I am truly hungry, there's nothing wrong with drinking more juices, especially green.

*Sidebar- This holiday experience has made me think how I want to eat after this is over, I'll save that post for another day.

WHAT I CONSUMED TODAY:
1 quart lemon water with MSM
2 quarts parsley/celery/apple/ginger
12 oz coconut water with liquid chlorophyll
3 quarts water

I know, I know, I didn't get a lot of juice in today. I slept in very late and took as long as possible pampering myself with skin brushing (which I'm so addicted to). And I was super busy, my energy was super high and low and behold it's almost 7 p.m. here in Denver and I try not to drink anything after that, except coconut water.

Tomorrow, I'm have alot of juices on the menu. It is Christmas and I need to keep my belly filled so that the food the family is cooking won't get the better of me.

Today has been a very good day. I got in some great juices and I'm very pleased with my high energy level. As soon as the hubbie comes home I'm going to run on the treadmill.

I have an exciting project in the works for Inspiration:Life and I'm hoping it pans out.

But I don't want to jinx anything, so I'll hush for now.

Peace and love,

How much is this going to cost?

A big concern for my husband and myself was how much is this feast going to cost.

In May (the month of my previous feast) it wasn't a big issue because the family was eating more fresh fruits and veggies, now that the family dynamics have changed, it created discussions.

We worked out a juice feasting and family grocery budget that we were both comfortable with and based on those budgets I know what I can spend.

This total below includes trips to the juice bar, produce and supplements.

The produce is the most fun to buy. The store I'm purchasing at now posts its sales ad online so I shop before I head into the store. It helps with my budget and I get a bit of variety into the juices. Alot of what I buy is also communal. The family is welcome to eat the fruits and vegetables I buy and I still have plenty to juice.

The supplements have been the pricier items. I am using about 2-3 tablespoons of MSM powder daily and it is about $5-$10 per week. The royal jelly and wheatgrass powder ain't cheap and I go through those like it's nothing.

I have given up on the bee pollen. Once I reached 8 granules the itchiness came back and I got sick to my stomach. And vomiting where I draw that line, but hey that's just me. I have issues.

Dec. 7-Dec. 17 Juice feasting bill: $96.14
Total Juice Feasting bill: $164.77

If my math is correct that's about $9 per day. I believe it is a shade under what JuiceFeasting.com says the cost of a feast could be. Not too bad.

Also I have added Day 18 photo to the Juice Feasting photo gallery. Check it out.

WHAT I CONSUMED TODAY:
1 quart lime water with MSM
2 quarts spinach/celery/carrot/sweet potato
1 quart pineapple/grapefruit
12 oz coconut water with liquid chlorophyll
2 quarts water

See how it is, I wait too late to post and everything fun, witty and clever I was going to write has been lost during the day and now I'm just too darn pooped to say anything other than the feast is going fabulous and sweet dreams, don't let the bed bugs bite.

Tomorrow, I'll discuss how much I'm spending on this juice feast. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I was at least.

Peace and love and "don't let the bed bugs bite."

Day 15

Today I don't have much of an appetite. I'm not worried about not getting in 3 quarts of juices today because as in eating foods, sometimes you're hungry and sometimes you're not.

And besides, did you notice the amount of juices I drank yesterday? The parties were wonderful and I sipped on my pineapple/ginger juice (and later into the evening green juice) from a wine glass. Very festive.

WHAT I CONSUMED TODAY:
1 quart lime water with MSM
1.5 quarts kale/celery/apple/ginger
24 oz grapefruit/orange/MSM/wheatgrass powder

Day 14- Two Juicy Parties

photos by Just Eyeball It
The holiday parties have started and the hubbie and I are going to two of them tonight. I'm preparing my juices now. I'll be drinking more than usually because I have a feeling, I'll be up all night and I'll need the energy.

Which is why my last juices will be pineapple for the carbs and boost of energy. Normally, you want to end your evening with a calming green juice.

Can you imagine it's been two weeks since I started my second feasting adventure?

Wow! I feel better this time around. More grounded and centered. I know it has a lot to do with drinking more green juices than fruit juices.

I love Juice Feasting....at least today I do ;). I'll talk more about the roller coaster ride that's called my emotions later.

Tonight, I party!

WHAT I CONSUMED TODAY:
1 quart lime water with MSM
1 quart kale/apple/ginger/celery ( I love Kale!)
2 quarts spinach/celery/tomato/garlic/jalapeno
24 oz grapefruit/orange/wheatgrass/MSM
2 quarts pineapple/ginger
1 quart water

Day 13- My Morning Beauty Ritual

Okay here is what I promised to disclose what I do every morning to aid in my juice feast. photo by Ezu

I follow the Juicing Feasting program fairly close in how I spend my mornings. David and Katrina have it layed out pretty well, so why mess with perfection.

My Beauty Ritual:

  • Drink lime (or lemon) water with MSM
  • Enema
  • Skin Brushing

  • Hot/Cool Shower

  • Moisturize with coconut oil
In the coming weeks, I'll describe each one in detail. You can't wait to hear all the dirty details about the enema, right? I know, I can absolutely feel your excitement on that one.

WHAT I CONSUMED TODAY:
1 quart lime water with MSM
1 quart lettuce/cucumber/carrot/kelp powder/cayenne
2 quarts parsley/celery/watermelon
12 oz coconut water with liquid chlorophyll
3 quarts pure water

Day 12-Drowning in Anxiety!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have lost my mind!!!!!!!!!!
Well not really. Actually, I'm feeling much better.

My "beauty ritual" and a cilantro and celery juice has seemed to calm me down a bit, but I tell you an hour ago...
Goodness, an hour ago I thought I might have been losing my freakin' mind.
Maybe it was an anxiety attack, who knows? Out of the blue a sense of urgency went through me. Everything I was doing at the time HAD to be done right NOW.

I started moving faster, I was becoming a bit confused and frustrated because I couldn't catch up or slow down. I just couldn't get my bearings on what I was doing. I also had a feeling that too much information was ingested into my brain that I couldn't process it all. It was just too much.

Do you know what I was doing? I was looking at the internet. That's all, nothing else. I was doing a bit of resource on a couple of projects I'm working on for the Daily Raw Cafe and I was a bit overwhelmed by it all.

I knew I had to get off to work on my personal stuff away from the internet and I had to do my beauty ritual before my baby woke and I had to do my housework and so many other things.
But I couldn't pull myself away from Jessica Alba's pregnancy, Katie Holmes' haircut, the recent shootings in Colorado, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton's, raw food blogs, the list goes on and on.

I couldn't let go until now. I taking a break from the internet for at least 24 hours. I need to.
Could I stay away from the media (television, radio, internet) during the feast? Sure.

Do I want to? No. I live with five other people who didn't sign-on for totally detoxing from all the pollutants of the world. That's cool. I can limit my exposure to it.

I don't watch tv, too often. I have one show ("America's Next Top Model") that I have guiltless pleasure for and that ends tonight so I'm good for television shows. But for me there's something therapeutic about watching a DVD, getting away from reality for a few hours. But, hey I got a BA in filmmaking so maybe I'm biased.

Anyway, I have just learned the hard way that too much media (in this case the internet) can be just as toxic as too much food or too much of the wrong kinds of food.
Something is going on with this feast that I need to work out and the internet is not helping.
I'm realistic. I'm not giving up the internet completely. I love it, I love the people I've meet on it, I love the little blogs I've created on it.
I'm just giving it a rest for a minute. So for the rest of the day, no emails, no posting (except this one), no people.com, no twitter.com, NADA.
Whatever proprieties are in the cilantro/celery combination seems to be working because I feel 1,000 times better.

WHAT I CONSUMED TODAY:
1 quart lime water with MSM
1 quarts cilantro/celery/hemp oil/kelp granules
1 quart grapefruit/MSM/wheatgrass
24 oz cucumber/celery/beet/carrot
1 quart cilantro/cucumber/carrot/garlic
3 quarts pure water

I keep talking about my "beauty ritual," I'll explain that soon. I promise. Not today though, I'm going to play with some kids, do a bit of house work.

Peace and love,
Terilynn

Day 11- Gunn

What does my Day 11 and Tim Gunn have in common? Nothing. I just wanted to chat about the dream I had a few nights ago.

I was driving down a street with a very steep hill (think San Francisco) on a sunny afternoon. Which is funny because I've never been to San Francisco, although my mother lives in the neighborhood of that area.

I was probably driving faster than I should have and when I hit the breaks there was nothing there. No breaks, nothing, nada, zilch.

I don't remember many of the particulars with the exception that the car was heading for a tree in the middle of the road at the bottom of the hill.

I don't know why there was a tree in the middle of the road at the bottom of the hill. It's a dream, they're freaky like that.

Anyway, standing in front of the tree was none other than "Project Runway's" Tim Gunn, dressed to the nines as usually. He also has his own show with model Veronica Webb called "Tim Gunn's Guide to Style."
Maybe my subconscious says I should work on my sense of style. Hum, very strange.

WHAT I CONSUMED TODAY:
1 quart lime water with MSM
1 quarts green leaf lettuce/celery/apple/garlic/hemp oil/kelp powder
16 oz grapefruit juice/wheatgrass powder/MSM
1 quarts green leaf lettuce/celery/apple/garlic/hemp oil/wheatgrass powder

Day 10-Bed of...

Wow! I feel wonderful. The feast is going so beautifully, I can't believe it. Don't get me wrong not everything is a bed of roses but for the most part everything is great. I have an abundance of energy, I'm not hungry and I feel good all around. Havig said that, here are a bit of the challenges I've dealt with during this feast (in no particular order):
  • coughing up phlegm
  • family baking a cake
  • sore throat in the mornings
  • family eating frozen pizza
  • bee pollen tolerance issue
  • me making a huge salad (without chomping) to counteract the crap my husband is feeding the kids during my kitchen hiatus
  • general bitchiness towards my husband
Here is my Day 10 photo, not bad. I'm pleased. I haven't taken a photo I can say I'm pleased with, in a very, very long time.

One of these days I'll show you what I looked like Dec. 31, 2006. It's not pretty but I tell you what it's seems like that was a zillion years ago.

WHAT I CONSUMED TODAY:
1 quart lime water with MSM
1 quarts spinach/apple/celery/ginger
2 quarts green leaf lettuce/cucumber/pineapple/wheatgrass powder
4 quarts pure water

Day 9 -Feeling Royally Good

Day 9 has let me a bit naughty and nice. But I feel really, really good.

The naughty: I've discovered royal jelly and I probably have had way more today than I should have. Like three tablespoons or more. Hence, why I have a major nice, really, really good feeling.

Royal jelly is a honey bee secretion used in the nutrition of the larvae. It helps slow down the aging process, increases energy levels, improves the condition of the skin, hair and nails. It has also been used to control cholesterol levels and to improve sexual vitality. It contains vitamins A, C, D, E, B1, B2, B3, B6 and B12. It is also a good source of Folic acid.

All in all, today has been a great day. I slept in to about 8:30 or so and had a really good "beauty ritual" session, had both of my favorite juices. I think I might have a bit of a juice/royal jelly buzz, but it's all good. Life is good.

This feast has been so much different compared to the first. I feel more stable and in control and not like I'm blowing in the wind. It's very interesting.

So far the most frustrating and challenging thing that is happening with this feast is preparing food for the kids and unfortunately, it's cooked. Some days the food smells good and some days it's very unpleasant. I plan on doing another post about those challenges. This is why my husband prepares most of the meals (and grocery shops) so I won't have to deal with it.

WHAT I CONSUMED TODAY:
1 quart lime water with MSM
1 quarts spinach/apple/celery
2 quarts parsley/watermelon/cucumber/jalapeno/garlic
3 quarts pure water
